Phase 3 — Wheeled Base Real

Brain and body, together for the first time.

Phase 3 builds the wheeled base as physical hardware and brings Chappie into the room for the first time.

The body is a wheeled base with a frame for the torso and the stereo camera mounted high enough to act as a head. The classical controllers from Phase 2 deploy onto real motors. Visual-inertial SLAM running on the camera turns whatever space Chappie is in into a navigable map. A path planner turns navigation goals into routes through it.

The brain from Phase 1 plugs in on top. A voice command becomes a navigation goal becomes the robot actually moving. By the end of Phase 3, the body looks like Chappie for the first time.

Milestone is “Chappie navigates”. The full perception, navigation, and control stack running end-to-end on the physical robot. Voice in, real motion out.
